Four Days on Big Creek and Loon Creek

After years of planning, we were finally able to put together our Big Creek and Loon Creek paddling trip. The trip started when Timmmmmy, Fea, Kayaker Lora, Super Kev, and Zach met in Salmon and drove to the put in for Loon Creek. We paddled 22 miles of Loon Creek and had the opportunity to portage around some poorly placed logs. That night we soaked in the Loon Creek hot springs.

The next morning we hired a plane to fly us from the Loon Creek Airstrip to the put-in for Big Creek at Big Creek Lodge. Timmy and Zach were labeled as “heavies” by the pilot and forced to ride separately from Loon Creek since it is one of the shortest and most dangerous airstrips around the Middle Fork of the Salmon. When we finally arrived at the put in for Big Creek, we were all ecstatic to learn that the Big Creek Lodge offers a huge breakfast for just $10. This was Timmy’s most memorable moment. We then paddled for three days down Big Creek and camped at some beautiful campsites along the creek. The trip ended after Big Creek met the Middle Fork of the Salmon and we paddle through the famous Impassable Canyon.
