Rafting the Rogue River

This is a four day journey through unspoiled southern Oregon wilderness. A Rogue River rafting trip is a great way to get away from the real world with friends and/or family. The rapids are interesting (especially in an inflatable kayak), the scenery is beautiful, the wildlife is more than abundant, and the campsites are great. This is a classic river journey.

Rogue RiverThe first day of a Rogue River rafting trip will take you through Rainey Falls. Most people will choose to run the Class IV "mid-chute" or the Class III "fish ladder" instead of dropping over the Class V falls. The camping below here is excellent.

The most interesting part of a Rogue trip happens on day three when you travel through Mule Creek Canyon and run Blossom Bar Rapid. Mule Creek Canyon is a mile long continuous Class III rapid with vertical rock walls on both sides. Stair Creek comes cascading into the river about two-thirds of the way down the canyon. Blossom Bar, a Class IV rapid, is about a mile below here. This is the hardest rapid on the run and challenges even the bravest rafters.

Below here there are a few fun rapids before the river eases. The river is not designated as "Wild and Scenic" in this section, but it is perhaps more beautiful with interesting rock formations on both sides of the river. One of the formations in this section was on a cover of National Geographic Magazine.

The trip ends at Foster Bar which is about 30 miles from the Pacific Ocean.
